An Introduction

The Lawn Greetings industry can be defined as small businesses which help their customers celebrate various occasions and events by renting displays that are set up in the recipient’s yards. The displays vary greatly from giant wooden character signs, to small "critter" signs, to a wide array of elements decorating a front yard. Generally you have 2 specific categories for lawn greetings; all occasion displays and the stork display.

Celebrate Pink Flamingo Day and Help Set a World Record!

Fremont, OH, May 19, 2008- The Lawn Greetings Association, Inc. (LGA) is seeking help in setting a World Record for the Most Pink Flamingo Displays set out in one day. This accomplishment will be from lawn greetings business owners and other interested parties from across the entire United States, Canada and anywhere else in the world.
Pink Flamingo Day, June 23rd, was declared by Leominster, MA Mayor Dean Mazzaralla, in honor of Don Featherstone, creator of the original Plastic Pink Flamingo. Shortly before the 50th anniversary of Featherstone’s flamingos, the manufacturer Union Products ceased production and went out of business, however, other versions of pink flamingos are still available from a few companies in the US.

"Part of our effort to set this world record is to honor Don Featherstone and his flamingos. Another part of our mission is to raise awareness of our lawn greetings industry and to let everyone know that we are out there to provide a fun and exciting service, to help you celebrate your special occasion by setting up a lawn greetings display in your recipients’ yard. Most popular of these displays is a Flamingo Flocking, therefore we chose this event based on Pink Flamingo Day," states Michelle Reed, President of the Lawn Greetings Association.

Those interested in this event can visit PinkFlamingoDay.com to get further information. To participate, just set up a display of a minimum of 4 pink flamingos in a yard with a sign that says, "Celebrating Pink Flamingo Day! PinkFlamingoDay.com" and take a photo of it. The association will also accept a short video file in .avi format. Email your photos and video to admin@lawn-greetings.org along with your name, contact information and location of the display. The display needs to be placed in the yard on June 23rd, by 9am and can not be taken down until 9pm the same night.

Don’t know where to find plastic pink flamingos? A listing of where to purchase them is available on their website. It is encouraged that participants host a party or gathering to make this World Record event amazing and fun!
